Main stage

Alain Clark & Cor Bakker Band

'Father & friend', 'Blow Me Away', 'Live It Out'. Who does not know Alain Clark's songs? The singer, guitarist, composer and producer has a cabinet full of awards, Multi platinum albums and a list of hit singles. Luckily he has kept an opening in his international tour schedule for a gig at MUSICDISTILLERY! And a very special performance it will be; he’s bringing along the Cor Bakker Band. Piano player Cor Bakker, who went to Los Angeles after the conservatory to continue studying with his great inspirator Clare Fischer, doesn’t really need an introduction; he is the Netherlands' most famous musical accompanist in the entertainment world. Of course Alain will sing his own hits, but during MUSICDISTILLERY he will also surprise the audience with popular popsongs in his own beautiful soulful jazzy style. Together with piano player Cor Bakker, drummer Marcel Serierse, bass player Charly Angenois and guitarist Maarten van der Grinten, he is currently working on the arrangements. You really do not want to miss this!

It is almost impossible to list the highlights from the career of singer, songwriter, producer and instrumentalist Bernard Fowler. The American has been the background singer and percussionist of the Rolling Stones for 30 years. Sang for Motörhead and Ozzy Ozborne, Tackhead and Nicklebag, produced and wrote for Ronnie Wood, arranged the vocals for Living Colors. His two solo albums 'Friends with Privileges' and 'The Bura' are breathtakingly beautiful. Together with Tim Ries he is the main act of MUSICDISTILLERY and we are very proud of that!

Saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer Tim Ries has been part of the Rolling Stones since 1999. He also has an unparalleled varied career that began in 1983 with Maynard Ferguson. Nueva Manteca

A new super latinjazz band with a new line up! Although... Nueva Manteca is not really new of course! The band has been around since 1983 and has had many forms with various different ensembles that have played around the world. Nueva Manteca toured with international Latin stars such as Giovanni Hidalgo, Armando Peraza, Orestes Vilato, Dave Valentine, Paquito d'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Luis Conte, Bobby Sanabria, Nicky Marrero, Ralph Irizarry and Claudio Roditi. More than once they were in the Top 10 of the American Latin Radio Charts. Now the band is back! Swinging more than ever before with trumpet player Oscar Cordero, saxophonist Ben van den Dungen, pianist Marc Bischoff, bassist Samuel Ruiz, percussionist Nils Fischer and drummer Liber Torriente.

Lino Vishnudatt Band

Rock 'n roll is in his blood. Lino Vishnudatt had his first piano lessons at the age of 3, but fell in love with the guitar early on and started writing his own music at a very young age. Lino played with Rosa King, Sue Chaloner, The Frog, Dusko Goykovic, Jimmy Williams (Trammps), Hans and Candy Dulfer, Wim Koopmans, Piet Noordijk, Daniel Sahuleka, El Kroppo and many others. He was the support act of great artists like B.B. King and Ray Charles. With the Lino Vishnudatt Band, which he started in Madrid in the 90s, he plays music in the spirit of Jimi Hendrix, BB King and Willie Dixon. After wandering through Western Europe, he returned to his hometown Rotterdam. With Carlos Breton Aguilar (bass) and Ruben van Boven (drums) he plays beautiful classics of blues legends interspersed with own work at MUSICDISTILLERY.

Joseph Bowie - Joey Blu & BlueZbone

Joseph Bowie grew up in the American Saint Louis in the early fifties. As son of music teacher William Lester Bowie and music lover Earxie Bowie, he did not escape a musical education! Inspired by the daily rehearsals of his nine-year-old brother Byron, who grew to become a well-known saxophonist and arranger, and his twelve-year-older brother and later internationally renowned jazz trumpet player Lester, Joseph strengthened the horn section within the family with trombone. At the age of seventeen, Bowie and Oliver Lake B.A.G (Black Artist Group) left for Paris where his first international tour began. Also the city where he played together with in those days jazz legends like Alan Silva, Frank Wright and Bobby Few. Although he was raised with jazz and blues, in 1978 he started working in New York with punk / funk artist James Chance. In the same year Bowie's band Defunkt was born. Sly and the family Stone, Blondie, The Ramones, David Byrne, Miles Davis, David Bowie, Living Color and Red Hot Chili Peppers are names by whom Joseph Bowie was inspired and with whom he played music. Their influences resound in his music. We welcome Joseph Bowie back to the second edition of MUSICDISTILLERY with his band Joey Blu & BlueZbone. This 'Roots-alter ego band' consists of the brothers Jeffrey van Duffelen (drums) and Sylvain van Duffelen (bass), and guitarist Patrick van der Hoeven.

Power to the Pipo

A real festival band! Power to the Pipo consists of Rob van Barschot (drums), Luc Pustjens (bass), Virgil Rerimassie (guitar) and Michiel Sonnevijlle (saxophone). The first three have their roots in the south of Limburg. Those who saw Power to the Pipo live, know that their performances are full of energy. The quartet plays raw jazz funk full of adventurous improvisations, but is also not afraid to venture out to rock and blues, all strung together by virtuoso solos and an ever-present groove.

Mozes Rosenberg & Friends

In the family albums there is a small Mozes Rosenberg with a violin that he holds as a guitar. From an early age, Mozes hears rattling vibratas, lashing chords, fast runs and melancholy melodies between the caravans. Mozes is seven years when he has his first TV performance with the Rosenberg Trio. When he is thirteen years old he meets Paco de Lucia in The Hague. During North Sea Jazz that same year, Mozes follows a masterclass with keyboardist Joe Zawinul, who died in 2007. The international breakthrough in 2005 is when the 'Ready'nable'-project with an album of the same nameis causing a stir, especially outside the Netherlands. Stochelo Rosenberg, Sani van Mullem and Mozes Rosenberg are a super trio. And with The Rosenbergs he has not only been playing standards on Django Reinhardt's oeuvre for more than seven years, but also the classical American jazz masters. At MUSICDISTILLERY, Mozes will share the stage with none other than guitarist Martin Limberger who played with Jan Akkerman, Biréli Lagrène, Stéphane Grappelli, Candy Dulfer and The Rosenbergs among others. Contrabassist Hassan Abuldaldah currently plays with the band Fat Harry & the Fuzzy Licks for various American Blues artists. Sologitarist Roy de Rijke is known from Let's be Gypsies, De Règâhs and Diona Fox & Her Ragdols. Accordion player Tim Kerssies has his own Tim Kerssies Quintet and we will also hear him at the festival in the dreamband of John Engels. Finally, violinist Erik Koning is a regular guest of MUSICDISTILLERY. He is not only bandleader of Let's be Gypsies, he also leads the Hot Club de France sessions on Saturday.

Six Strings X.O

Do you want to see and hear how much guitar can go in an hour? Then you should not miss this performance by Six Strings! Guitarist and vocalist Joris Lutz, who together with main bandmates guitar virtuoso Iwan de Reus and drummer Elian van Buuren, is known from the famous Six String Sessions, has invited two super guitarists especially for MUSICDISTILLERY. None other than Anton Goudsmit and Leendert Haaksma are joining the party! We know Anton, among others, from the New Cool Collective and Ploctones and Leendert from Anouk and Blowbeat, to name but a few names. During this very special edition of Six Strings, music lovers will be surprised with crazy loops, beautiful silences, but especially the most beautiful guitar music!

Jubilee John English & his dream formation

John English. Who does not know him? The most swinging jazz drummer in the Netherlands celebrates his 65th anniversary (!) as a musician this year. John became known as the side-man of world stars such as Chet Baker, Archie Shepp, Ben Webster and countless others. Especially for MUSICDISTILLERY he is bringing his dream formation consisting of Benjamin Herman (alto saxophone), Jan van Duikeren (trumpet), Ruud Ouwehand (bass) and Rob van Bavel (piano). They will pay a tribute to the famous 'Diamond Five', the group with which John Engels from 1957 to 1961 made a furore in Amsterdam's jazz club Sheherazade. Although this important piece of national history in 'Remembering The Diamond Five' will be the starting point, you never know where these great musicians will take you. In John's words: "It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing!"

Funky & Groovy from NYC

Dutch base player Joris Teepe has lived and worked in New York since 1992. There he met the hippest and best musicians from the scene! And he is bringing those 'cats' to MUSICDISTILLERY! Together with guitarist Dave Stryker, saxophonist Don Braden and drummer Owen Hart, he will throw a musicial party in the Noletloodsen! That will be groovy! That will be pure enjoyment with the Joris Teepe New York Groove Quartet. New York on Schiedam soil!

KetelKantine

Apart from the main stage there is also the KetelKantine. Special musical things will  happen here as well! Our festival DJ Maestro will perform there on Friday and there will be jam sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Whoever will join us during those sessions, will be our little secret for a while! However we can tell you that there are some special names on the list...

DJ Maestro

Martijn Barkhuis is a musical centipede who started playing the violin as a child. He soon performed with orchestras and broadened his musical knowledge during his studies with the phenomenon jazz & radio. As DJ Maestro he introduced the general public to his love of classical, jazz and club music in clubs in Amsterdam such as Roxy, Escape and Paradiso. Today he is a welcome guest in European clubs and tours in Asia, Australia and Africa. He made nine platinum albums for the legendary Blue Note Records, remixed Nina Simone's debut album Little Girl Blue and produced two albums for Verve / Universal. What else can we say? We are proud to have Martijn Barkhuis, aka DJ Maestro, on repetition as festival DJ during MUSICDISTILLERY!

Hot Club de France

On Saturday night are already many legendary guitar virtuosos ‘inda house’! In the KetelKantine, however, many more guitarists, violinists and accordionists will come together to jam in Hot Club de France style, better known as gipsy jazz. Under the guidance of gipsy violinist Erik Koning surprising names from home and abroad will be present. Let yourself be carried away in French atmospheres.

Closer to Jazz

'Bringing swinging and popping jazz that is bursting with energy and is meant for good times', that is what the still very young musicians Thijs Nissen and Mitchell Damen want with their foundation Closer To Jazz. They have been organizing fantastic jam sessions in Rotterdam for the last three years and are supported by Codarts and de Doelen. In consultation with MUSICDISTILLERY they invite young talent in the KetelKantine, as well as renowned names from the Dutch jazz scene. Their jazz sessions will turn into a party!
